Team Lead

Tell me something about your background

I graduated in 2017 in navigation technology. I didn’t want to work in that area so I decided to look at jobs where I could combine traveling and working at the same time. I started as a commissioning engineer in Belgium where I was responsible for hydrogen installations, which I did for 4 years. I traveled a lot and learned a lot about machines and their electrical and mechanical aspects. Those years were crazy and went so fast, but I enjoyed it.

When did you first hear about WEB?

I came from a very tangible world to one where you sit behind your computer. That was also something I wanted to do at that time. I wanted something a little more relaxed with less travelling and I wanted to focus on one task and one company. I heard of WEB through Yorric and soon after that, I spoke with Sjors. I think it was a 15-minute conversation and I decided to join WEB in 2021.

What do you do at WEB?

I started as an Industrial Engineer for one of our clients. I worked with a team of Technical Author’s and engineers onsite at WEB. I learned a lot about industrial engineering in a short period of time, as well as the client and the Dutch culture, so it was a very pleasant mix. I spent 2 years working on the same project for our client. At a certain point, it was getting repetitive, and I wanted to do something else. I requested to join another project, and at that time another client just came by. It was a great opportunity for me to learn about another company, another way of working, and another experience altogether.

When I started, we were with a team of 8 engineers. Slowly the team grew to 15, to 40 to 100 people within three years. We already had Project Leads who took care of the project and personal development of the employees. But because of the growth, it was decided to create the role of a Team Lead, who would take care of personal growth. I stepped into that program too.
While I was following training to become a Team Lead, this happened parallel with the new project. Currently, I am focusing more on my TL role. I enjoy it and it’s super dynamic.

What was it like for you to experience the growth of WEB?

It’s something to be proud of because you are part of the process, and you see how it grows. One of the reasons why it also goes so smoothly is because when you have a request or problem, the speed at which WEB tries to solve or improve it is incredible. That constant drive to make things better is one of the strongest points we have within WEB. You can throw things on the table and they’ll think with you.

I also feel that I can grow here both professionally and personally. It’s great to earn so much trust that allows you to make things betters. I’m curious to see where we will go in the future.

What was your impression of the WEB community?

My first impression was that it was very open. Although it’s cliché when recruiters reach out saying we are a young, driven, and dynamic company, I think with WEB it really is the case. You get the opportunity to leave your mark and embrace the chances to grow. With my role as a TL, I don’t think you’ll get these chances and open space to work in other companies.

Another aspect I noticed is that WEB has a very strong HR team. We cannot underestimate the things they do and how they’ve built it. Also, when looking at the sales team, they all work together. You’ll often hear the remark that whenever you need help, all you have to do is reach out.

It’s also very welcoming. Moving is a huge step, especially if you leave your family and friends, then I think coming here is a good place to end up.

What advice would you give to new joiners?

Do it. I’ve tried in the past to get friends to work here, for different reasons it didn’t work out, But I always thought, if they could get the experience that I did, that would be good. I wouldn’t recommend it if it wasn’t a good place. There are a lot of opportunities and we’re still growing. Before I joined WEB, I was considering another position. I considered it back then but I’m very happy I ended up here, it was a good decision.
